Brooklyn Neighborhood Info

Brooklyn borders Hosford-Abernethy to the north, Creston-Kenilworth, and Reed to the east, Sellwood-Moreland to the south, and the Willamette River to the west. Brooklyn sits just across the Ross Island Bridge from South Waterfront and Homestead.

Brooklyn is considered one of Southeast Portland’s most desirable neighborhoods. It is also one of the oldest communities in Portland with many charming older houses, lush green spaces, and independently-owned businesses. Adjoining districts are also some of Portland’s hippest neighborhoods in the city, so exploring nearby areas is always viable for going out.

Within Brooklyn, residents enjoy Powell City and Brooklyn City Parks. Another point of interest is Aladdin Theater, a neighborhood landmark entertainment venue built in 1920. It used to be a movie theater, but now it’s a cozy auditorium used for live music and comedy shows. A pint of craft brew or cider in Brooklyn is never far away.

Eastbank Esplanade, a pedestrian and bicycle path along the east shore of the Willamette River, allowed the neighborhood to regain its connection to the Willamette River. Ross Island, a 400-acre island in the middle of the Willamette River, is a natural area used by at least 50 species of birds, including ospreys, eagles, and herons. It is not used for any residential purposes. Ross Island Sand and Gravel own the island.

Brooklyn is an excellent location for folks who plan to commute to Downtown Portland, Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), and Portland State University (PSU). Locals have always used the Ross Island Bridge to get into Downtown Portland, but the opening of the MAX Orange Line in September 2015 provided even more ways to access the downtown area.

Each property listing above includes details about the price, year built, size of the home and the lot (square feet), number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, and other vital details. Review exterior features like swimming pools, yards, fences, and landscaping. Listings will also specify the architectural style of the house and if there are any views. Interior features like heating and cooling systems will be itemized. If any appliances or other personal property are included with the sale, those will also be noted.
