Buckman Neighborhood
Buckman borders the Willamette River on the west, Kerns on the north, Hosford Abernathy on the south, and Sunnyside to the east. It is located south of E Burnside St and north of SE Hawthorne Blvd from the river to SE 28th Ave.
Three bridges connect Buckman to Downtown Portland including the Burnside, Morrison, and Hawthorne Bridges.
Parks in the neighborhood include Colonel Summers and St. Francis Parks. Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, an open space and place of historical significance, also sits within the Buckman neighborhood.
Buckman neighborhood is a happening and hip neighborhood. It is full of cool hangout spots where people gather on weekends from great breweries, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and a variety of independently-owned retail stores.
The famous funky Hawthorne District is also in Buckman. Here you will see some very unique shops and people. This is where the notion of "Portlandia" happens. Despite being hip and funky, homes here look more traditional, including architectural styles of Craftsman and Victorian. There are no high-rise condos or Modern abodes in Buckman, though it's very urban.
Schools in Buckman include Buckman Arts Magnet Elementary School, a highly regarded public school for students interested in arts, and Buckman Elementary School.
