Eastmoreland Neighborhood Info
Eastmoreland borders Sellwood-Moreland to the west, Woodstock to the east, and Reed College to the north.
Eastmoreland is an upscale Southeast Portland community full of well-maintained, larger homes. Lot sizes are larger than average, too. This neighborhood looks different than others in Portland. Dutch Colonial, Stone, Stucco, and large English Tudor homes give the community an East Coast feel. And, that's no accident.
Eastmoreland goes back to 1910 when William M. Ladd, the son of William S. Ladd -- one of Portland's early entrepreneurs and its fifth mayor -- donated 40 acres of land to form Reed College. His plan to attract residents interested in a new, beautiful, planned community similar to those they'd recently left in Boston and parts East. Ladd commissioned a plan for a 1,270 home site but could not attract enough buyers to pull off his grand ambitions. Today, the neighborhood is well-established and a highly sought-after place to live; it is the most expensive neighborhood in Southeast Portland.
The tree-lined streets here are beautifully maintained, and several have grass medians. Parks in this neighborhood include Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, Eastmoreland Golf Course, and Berkeley Park.
Residents of Eastmoreland stay very involved in their community. They participate annually in the Friends of Trees program to reforest urban areas, planting and maintaining hundreds of trees.
They have a working relationship with nearby Reed College and with TriMet regarding local light rail station site proposals.
