Mt. Tabor borders Sunnyside to the west, Montavilla to the east, North Tabor to the north, and South Tabor to the south. The neighborhood sits south of E Burnside St between SE 50th Ave and SE 76th Ave. The southern border is SE Division St.
Mount Tabor City Park is the district’s principal feature. It is a dormant volcanic vent named after Mount Tabor in Israel by Plympton Kelly, son of Oregon City pioneer Clinton Kelly. The peak of Mt. Tabor is 636 feet high, and from it, visitors can catch a splendid, panoramic view of Downtown Portland and beyond.
Living in Mt. Tabor offers lots of great benefits. First, you have the fantastic Mt. Tabor Park with reservoirs and hiking trails on a whopping 196 acres.
Second, there are places to venture out for dining and entertainment within the neighborhood. Restaurants and shops are found along SE Division St, SE Hawthorne Blvd, SE Belmont St, and E Burnside St, streets that through the community (except Hawthorne blocked by the park). The district next door, Richmond, also has pockets of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Third, Mount Tabor is close to Downtown Portland so commuting there is short and easy.
The schools in Mt. Tabor include Warner Pacific College, Western Seminary Portland Campus, and Portland Community College SE Campus just a block away from the southeastern Mt. Tabor neighborhood border on SE Division St.
