Overlook sits at the southernmost tip of NoPo and shares its borders with University Park to the northwest, Arbor Lodge directly to the north, Humboldt and Boise to the east, and Eliot to the south.

Overlook's southwestern edge runs along the Willamette River, southernmost portion sits directly across from Northwest District near Pearl District in the Downtown Portland area. Its eastern border runs along I-5 and until it reaches the I-405 Bridge.

The district contains Swan Island Basin, an industrial shipyard. Swan Island used to be the site for Portland's first airport, Swan Island Municipal Airport, which operated until the early 1940s when the island was converted into a Kaiser Shipyard for World War II naval war production.

Residents of Overlook enjoy Overlook Park, which is a peaceful spot overlooking Downtown Portland and the Willamette River. Views of the sun setting over the West Hills and beyond are exceptional on summer evenings. The park provides running trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. Houses near Overlook Park have incredible views of the city and the river. There are also a few other parks in the neighborhood, including Madrona City Park and Mocks Crest Property, which offer fantastic views of the city.

Overlook neighborhood has restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and other locally-owned retail stores. Most of them are located on North Interstate Ave and North Killingsworth Street. Interstate Farmers Market at 3500 N Interstate near Overlook Park brings fresh produce and neighborhood fun to the district on Wednesdays.

Lastly, Overlook is a quick hop to Downtown Portland and other North Portland neighborhoods via car or MAX train.
