University Park Neighborhood Info

University Park runs along the Willamette River to the southwest, Cathedral Park and St. Johns to the northwest, Portsmouth to the northeast, Arbor Lodge to the east, and Overlook to the southeast.

University Park is named due to the fact it surrounds the University of Portland. The school's campus occupies 71 acres of Willamette River frontage and has a student body of about 4,250 students.

University Park is not a college town, per se, despite the presence of U of P. Students and its non-student residents share services and establishments on N Lombard St, where all the restaurants, shops, bars, coffee shops, and other small businesses are located. This neighborhood is known for being rather laid back and having great views.

When the Portland real estate market is hot, University Park can shoot through the roof. That said, first-time homebuyers are often able to find a home here that can afford.

The district is full of charming Victorian and Colonial-style homes. The housing mix is mostly single-family houses; you won't see many multi-family homes nor apartment buildings, which is a bit counterintuitive given that the University of Portland is here. Students attending the university tend to rent single-family homes, which is atypical for neighborhoods that surround academic institutions.

University Park contains McKenna Park, Portsmouth Park, and also Columbia Park, shared with Portsmouth neighborhood. Columbia Park sits on 35 acres and has sports fields (baseball, softball, and soccer) tennis courts, a volleyball court, horseshoe pit, swimming pool, wading pool, playground, trails, and picnic areas.
