Vernon is a compact neighborhood bordered by King to the west, Sabin to the south, Condordia to the east and Woodlawn to the north. It is located between NE 10th Ave and NE 22nd Ave from west to east and between NE Wygant St and NE Ainsworth St from south to north.
Vernon is a neighborhood with a mix of residential and commercial areas. The southern portion of the district along Alberta Street, which is part of the Alberta Arts District, has many retail stores, restaurants, and bars. Alberta Park also graces the district.
There is a strong sense of community in Vernon due in part to an active neighborhood group, Vernon Neighborhood Association. Regular meetings are held plus events of the purely fun variety. Overall, Vernon is a laid back district that is fairly self-contained but is only a short drive to Downtown Portland (about 13 minutes) when folks need to take things up a notch.
