Woodlawn borders Sunderland on the north, Concordia on the east, King and Vernon on the south, and Piedmont on the west.
In the heart of the district sits Woodlawn City Park, which features Woodlawn Park Amphitheatre, a water feature, and a basketball court. Woodland Park is where expression of culture and art is encouraged. Portlandia's Season 2 episode, "Star Trek," was filmed here.
Across from Woodlawn City Park sits Dekum Triangle, a residential enclave where the streets change from perpendicular to 45-degree angles. Aerial views show the resulting pattern: a triangular-shaped block centered within a square-shaped block.
Woodlawn Park's Dekum Street is the area's commercial core, and it is lined with bars, breweries, and restaurants.
Woodlawn has been able to attract new businesses, transforming the community into a more substantial mixed retail/residential neighborhood. Real estate investors quickly followed suit, kicking off a wave of existing home renovations and new construction.
Residents in Woodlawn are friendly and have a strong sense of community, as evidenced by the interaction among neighbors as they pass each other on the street. The charm of the neighborhood resonates with artists and musicians.
